Petal Party Crop

Petal Party is an easy-to-wear tee with dramatic lace panels that adorn the front and back. It's knit from the top down and finished with short sleeve cuffs and a tidy rolled collar.

I love this cropped style for layering over light summer dresses. If you prefer a longer top to wear with shorts, skirts, or literally anything, add a few inches to the body and voila - it's a tee! Several test knitters added length to theirs and I LOVE the results. Here's a link to the test knitters project pages if you'd like to check them out.

I used Porter Wool Co.'s Merino/Nylon four ply for both of my samples. The pink sample shown above uses the namesake colorway Petal Party and the deep blue sample was knit with Pure Indigo. I love the way this fingering weight yarn drapes after blocking and really shows off the lace panels. Katlin has dyed an array of stunning colors for you to create your own Petal Party Crop. Her shop is stocked and I highly recommend you check out her color artistry.

Construction

Petal Party is a drop shoulder tee that begins with two back shoulder tabs knit separately and joined with cast on neckline stitches. Sweater back is worked flat until sleeve depth is reached.

Front shoulders are picked up along the cast on edges, knit separately, then joined with cast on neckline stitches. Sweater front is worked flat until sleeve depth is reached.

Sweater front and back are joined to work in the round and knit until the body reaches the desired length, ending with 1x1 rib hem. To finish, short sleeve cuffs and neckline are both picked up and knit.

Selecting A Size

Petal Party Crop is designed to be worn with 2-6” / 5.1-15.2 cm of positive ease. With this in mind, select a size that is 2-6” / 5.1 -15.2 cm larger than your actual bust measurement.

The amount of ease you choose depends on your style preferences or how you plan to wear your Petal Party Crop. You're also welcome to select a size with less than 2" of positive ease if you prefer a closer fit!

If cropped length tees aren't your jam, you could easily add repeats to the body to reach your preferred length. Just be mindful of how this will change your required yardage. Several test knitters did this - I recommend checking out the Ravelry project pages!

Pure Indigo sample is 44” / 110 cm shown on a 42” / 105 cm bust (two inches of ease) and Petal Party sample is 48” / 120 cm shown on a 42” / 105 cm bust (six inches of ease).
